'I don't think anyone, apart from Don Bradman, is in the same class as Sachin Tendulkar.' -Shane Warne

This is cricket icon, Sachin Tendulkar's life story in his own words - his journey from a small boy with dreams to becoming a cricket god. His amazing story has now been turned into a major film,
A Billion Dreams, in which he stars.

The greatest run-scorer in the history of cricket, Sachin Tendulkar retired in 2013 after an astonishing 24 years at the top. The most celebrated Indian cricketer of all time, he received the Bharat Ratna Award - India's highest civilian honour - on the day of his retirement. Now Sachin Tendulkar tells his own remarkable story - from his first Test cap at the age of 16 to his 100th international century and the emotional final farewell that brought his country to a standstill.

When a boisterous Mumbai youngster's excess energies were channelled into cricket, the result was record-breaking schoolboy batting exploits that launched the career of a
cricketing phenomenon. Before long Sachin Tendulkar was the cornerstone of India's batting line-up, his every move watched by a cricket-mad nation's devoted followers.

Never has a cricketer been burdened with so many expectations; never has a cricketer performed at such a high level for so long and with such style -
scoring more runs and making more centuries than any other player, in both Tests and one-day games. And perhaps only one cricketer could have brought together a shocked nation by defiantly scoring a Test century shortly after terrorist attacks rocked Mumbai.

His many achievements with India include
winning the World Cup and topping the world Test rankings. Yet he has also known his fair share of frustration and failure - from injuries and early World Cup exits to stinging criticism from the press, especially during his unhappy tenure as captain.

Despite his celebrity status, Sachin Tendulkar has always remained a very private man, devoted to his family and his country. Now, for the first time, he provides a fascinating insight into his personal life and gives a frank and revealing account of
a sporting life like no other.

Sachin Tendulkar's autobiography "Sachin Tendulkar: Playing It My Way" is amazing to read because his rise to greatness was the result of a single-minded all consuming purpose and focus on playing the game at the highest levels of achievement.

This book is a particularly inspiring sports story because the challenge to be the best in the sport or for one's country is so intense.

It has some great ancillary reader benefits. In India, family is everything. Through Tendulkar, this book provides an excellent portrait of classic Indian values including dedication, persistence and resilience. He is proud of his achievements but explains them modestly. Reading this book, he seems like such a great, great sports hero, setting such a great example for Indian youth or any youth in any sport anywhere in the world.

If you're at all curious about cricket as compared to baseball (with the average winning score seeming so high by comparison) this a great book. There are similarities together with lots of differences. Like an American elevator is called a "lift," cricket players "bowl" rather than "pitch" the ball. And the "pitch" refers to the field rather than how the ball is thrown. If you have a really good knowledge of cricket, you'll especially appreciate how Tendulkar gives quite a few explanations of several technical aspects of the game.

Tendulkar's account of his early experience in cricket and the encouragement and support of his dad and mom, his friends and his coaches, makes this a very accessible book to an American audience, especially parents whose children take up baseball.

All the spoken Hindi, although there is not a lot of it, is well translated into English.

There are four pages of mostly color photos of Tendulkar, his family and highlights of his career. And Tendulkar's career statistics are listed in the back of the book.

It is written "Tendulkar is to Cricket what Michael Jordan is to Basketball and Muhammad Ali is to Boxing." His autobiography, "Playing It My Way" will tell you exactly how that came to be.

It is an easy read. Sachin talks about his cricketing career in detail, but for some reason he decides to skip all controversial moments that happened inside the Indian team during his career. He goes on in detail how he planned to face Shane Warne and other Australian bowlers during the Australian tour, but he decides to stay silent about how he planned to tackle the uncertainty and chaos caused in the dressing room by his teammates match fixing scandals. It is one thing that he didn't want to talk about other team mates in his auto-biography, but he does not even talk about his own emotional state at that time. Let alone, he completely ignores the incident and skips it, does not even bring it up. Apart from that, the book helps you to figure out why he was one of the best cricketer in the world, why he is the master blaster. The answer is simple, hard work. The book talks about his injuries during his playing career and how he coped up with the pain and always fought back to come back. Apart from cricket, the book touches his courtship and marriage with his wife, her support for him during his playing career and her sacrifices. To summarize, it is a motivational read that teaches only hard work is a key to success.

This is an amazing and thorough account for one of the greatest cricketer of my generation! The less known stories of managing injuries and enduring tremendous pain for a greater cause is a takeaway for any person in any walk of life! The best part of this book is probably the unheard stories of Sachin's off the field partnership with Anjali, without whose sacrifice and support, we would not probably see such a terrific journey of 24 years!

And thanks a ton to Boria for batting with Sachin to write this book, to capture all those moments I grew up watching!

While the book is an autobiographical account and it does perfect justice to the genre, it would be more enjoyable with little bit more creative deviation, something from a narrator's point of view here and there!

Overall 'Playing it my way' is a must read for anyone who knows Cricket because it's about the GOD himself! A fav in my Kindle library!
