In a nutshell, companies must feel the need to place their societal purpose at the heart of their commercial strategy.

The history of the Green Revolution in India goes back to the 1960s when high-yielding rice and wheat was introduced to increase food production. This resulted in dramatic success in the Indian subcontinent and Mexico. The movement was folded with certain characteristics.

    • To double cropping systems

The Green Revolution in India influenced our economy extensively.

      1. Increase in agriculture production

The influx of the green revolution in India in 1967-1968 resulted in an incredible increase in crop production. A record grain output of 131 million tonnes was seen in 1978-1979, which qualified India as one of the world’s biggest agriculture producers. The yield per unit enhanced by 30% in varieties of rice and wheat.

      2. Reduction in import

Here’s one of the major impacts of the green revolution in India. With a humongous increase in production, our country gained the confidence of self sufficiency. By 2003, the per capita net availability of food grains increased to 436 grams per day. A sigh of relief for India.

      3. Industrial development

The green revolution in India has spawned industrial growth by creating a high demand for different types of machines and chemical fertilisers. This resulted in industries producing these items to sprout significantly.

      4. Farmers flourished

An increase in production led to the good days of farmers. The green movement created more opportunities for farmers. The revolution came as a rescue for those surrounded by heavy debts. An increase in demand and supply caused farmers to increase their income level. As a whole, the agriculture picture in India was hunky dory.

      5. Rural employment

Although the green revolution feared unemployment since machines replaced humans, it led to an increase in the demand for labour resulting in immense rural employment opportunities. An extensive use of fertilisers and multiple cropping created more job opportunities for farmers. Reports stated that more than 15 lakhs poor people from Orissa, Bihar and Uttar Pradesh were employed.
