Knitted Wallace and Gromit make Wensleydale Creamery home

A woollen Wallace and Gromit which helped raise £15,000 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance have gone on permanent display.

The life-sized pair took Hawes Yarnbombers seven months to craft from 15kg of yarn.

During the summer they were based at the town's marketplace but they have since been moved to the Wensleydale Creamery's visitor centre.

Yarnbomber Jane Barratt said their creations were a "real labour of love".

Wallace and Gromit first appeared in Nick Park's animated short film a Grand Day Out in 1989 and went on to appear in numerous short and full-length films.

Wallace was characterised by his passion for Wensleydale cheese, which is produced by the creamery in Hawes.

Ms Barratt said: "Our Wallace and Gromit creations were a real labour of love.

"[They're] synonymous with Wensleydale cheese and we wanted to bring this to life in a way that could be celebrated by locals and visitors alike, all whilst raising some much-needed funds for Yorkshire Air Ambulance."

The Yarnbombers have knitted and crocheted figures for several years to help raise funds, with previous highlights being Shrek and Friends in 2022.

Ms Barratt said she was "absolutely delighted" their latest additions had found a home at the creamery, which said visitors would be able to have their photographs taken with them in return for a donation.

Trish Cannon, director of the creamery's visitor centre, said: "It's such a pleasure to be able to give Wallace and Gromit a permanent home so that these amazing creations can be enjoyed by all."
