Aishwarya Rai Bachchan confirmed in negative role for Mani Ratnam’s next?

BizAsiaLive.com reported a while back that Aishwarya Rai Bachchan was in talks with Mani Ratnam to play a negative character. Although this wasn’t confirmed and still isn’t, more details appear to have emerged about the actress’s role in the film.

“The story takes place in the 10th century before Raja Chola became a king. Aishwarya will be seen as Nandini, the wife of Periya Pazhuvettaraiyar, who served as the chancellor and treasurer of the Chola kingdom. Her character is written as a mysterious, power-hungry woman who manipulates her husband to plan the downfall of the Chola empire because she has been wronged by them,” said a source, as quoted by Mid-Day.

Rai Bachchan has been seen in grey roles before and has also been appreciated in them. The source further says, “Aishwarya was approached for the project last year. But she bid her time, understanding the layers of her character before giving the nod last month. Contrary to reports, Amitabh Bachchan is not part of the movie. Mohan Babu will play Aishwarya’s husband”.

It will be exciting to see Rai Bachchan unite with Ratnam and that too as such an interesting character.
