Year 2010 has been a great year for cars in India. During the year we saw some launches that added much flavor to the Indian automotive industry. Meanwhile, during the period the economy also grew consistently making people financially strong and people were after their favorite car desperately. Even people preferred buying second car. Resultantly, there was a boom in demand that was well handled by Indian and international car makers who came up with some of their best offering during the year.

Besides, the year 2010 sales trend suggest that it was a year of compact cars that has now become the most competitive of all the car markets. Sensing tremendous scope in India, carmakers have adopted an aggressive stand by increasing their portfolio. The booking went up to 12,000 units since December 1 even before the car was rolled out to the dealerships. The entry level sedan is being produced at the second manufacturing unit owned by the company which is in India in a joint venture Kirloskar Group. The Toyota Etios is currently priced at Rs 4.96 lakh to Rs6.86 lakh. Among its competitors are Maruti Swift Dzire, Mahindra Verito (erstwhile Mahindra Logan) and Fiat Linea.

Ford Figo, the much-awaited compact car by the American auto maker was launched in March 2010. The Ford Figo price in India is Rs3.59 lakh to Rs5.48 lakh. The diesel Ford Figo is priced at Rs4.58 Lakh. Following its performance and mileage over 60,000 Ford Figo’s are sold since its launch and the car was acclaimed as the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) 2011. Ford Figo is available in 52kW/102Nm 1.2-litre petrol engine and a 51kW/160Nm 1.4-litre turbo-diesel engine.

Tata Motors launched the crossover car Tata Aria in November 2010. The car that has the finish of a sedan and the stability and ruggedness of a multi utility vehicle has a 2.2 litre Direct Injection Common Rail (DICOR) diesel engine. This crossover has also become more popular among people who were eyeing to buy a Mahindra Xylo or Toyota Innova. Producing a power of 140 PS power and a torque of 320 Nm, the Tata Aria looks elegant and eases a comfortable ride. Tata Aria is available in Pride and Prestige variants and Tata Aria price is between Rs13.25 lakh to Rs15.84 lakh. The Tata Aria is a close rival of crossovers such as Mahindra Xylo and Toyota Innova on the one hand and Honda CR-V and Rs20.25 lakh Mitsubishi Outlander.

The Volkswagen Polo India car is available in India at a starting price of Rs4.57 lakh ex showroom in Delhi.
