The growing popularity of EVs would inevitably reach the exciting but also haunting world of hearse conversions at some point, so it is no surprise that a Dutch company called Derks Uitvaartmobiliteit turned to the Tesla Model 3 for their latest project. The Tesla Hearse 3 as they call it is available to order in European markets, featuring a stretched body, a luxurious illuminated area for the coffin, and practical storage compartments while offering up to 375 km (233 miles) of zero-emission range.

As with most hearse conversions, the project required a lot of cutting and a healthy stretch on the wheelbase. As a result, the Tesla Hearse 3 measures 5.56 m (218.9 inches) long, which is a full 866 mm (34.1 inches) longer than the standard Model 3 sedan.

The front end, front doors, mirror caps, lighting units, and bumpers are the only parts carried over from the Tesla Model 3, as everything else has been tweaked to better suit the vehicle’s new role. The roof is extended in an aerodynamic manner, transforming the EV sedan into a humongous estate with massive glass surfaces and a custom tailgate. While the majority of single-cab hearse conversions include a rear door delete, the Tesla Hearse 3 has two extra half-doors providing access to extra storage compartments.

Inside, the company added a partition wall with a window. There are also electric curtains on the side and rear windows for extra privacy. A very cool optional feature is the pictured starry sky roofliner with LEDs in different colors, matching the illuminated side walls. Other options include extendable stainless steel flower racks, and an under-floor drawer for a scissor trolley or care cases.

The pictured vehicle is based on a Tesla Model 3 Standard Range Plus, fitted with a rear-mounted electric motor producing 302 (225 kW / 306 PS) and a 53 kWh floor-mounted battery. The electric sedan has an advertised range of 491 km (305 km) but the extra weight and worse aerodynamics of the hearse conversion result in lower range estimates between 350-375 km (218-233 miles). Still, this is more than enough to take you to the graveyard without the need for charging stops.

Derks Uitvaartmobiliteit hasn’t shared pricing for the Tesla Hearse 3, but the cost of the donor base-spec Model 3 is €51,990 (equal to a little over $55,000 at current exchange rates) in the Netherlands. Judging from the extensive modifications included in the conversion, the resulting vehicle won’t come cheap.
