Why this petition matters

Started by S.C.L.I.C.I

An estimated 170 million children are engaged in child labor, or 11% of the global population of children, according to the International Labour Organization. This problem is especially prevalent in India, where the garment sector employs about 40 million workers directly and 60 million indirectly, and is the second largest provider of employment, after agriculture. Due to the difficulty in regulating production facilities, millions of children in India are at risk of child labor in the clothing industry. Multinational companies such as Gap, H&M, and Nike have profited off of the labor of innocent children. Clearly, it is time for immediate and widespread protections against these egregious injustices.

Our organization's goal is to enact change by bringing this issue to the forefront of the national conversation. We are petitioning California senators, Kamala Harris and Diane Feinstein, to act and to propose a bill that would enact trade restrictions with India's clothing industry unless sweeping regulations against child labor are implemented.

It is not only our obligation, but our duty to protect the innocent. The most vulnerable of the global society need OUR help. So sign this petition to enact change in our world!
