First look inside Mel's hamlet! Gibson's former family home goes on sale for $33m

It was the family paradise Mel Gibson shared with wife Robyn until their divorce.

And now people are getting their first look inside the Lethal Weapon star's breathtaking former residence in Connecticut after it was put on the market for a whopping $33m.

And the actor's notorious temper may be sparked when he finds out Old Mill Farm's current owner is set to make a massive profit on the $24m he sold it for just two years ago.

With its 15 bedroom mansion, amazing facilities and 75 acres it is certainly a house worthy of a man who was Hollywood royalty until his spectacular fall from grace.

The 1926 estate is magnificent on both the micro and macro levels due to the impressive architecture and intricate details, a heady mix that captured the heart of the Hamlet star.

It is certainly a manor that would win nods of approval even from Downton Abbey's aristocratic Crawley family.

It sits in the heart of the blue-blooded enclave of Greenwich, CT, and is a stirring monument of the luxury that was inheritor in some of the most extravagant homes of the early 20th century.

The Tudor-style manor house is nestled among wooded hills and traditionally landscaped grounds.

And it seems to have avoided the passage of years with its wood-paneled rooms, mullioned windows, and elaborately carved banisters and mantels, which remain as impressively baroque now as on the day they were installed.

Key to the estate’s timeless quality is due to  its astute design, the product of lauded Tudor architect Charles Lewis Bowman.

He designed the extraordinary home as a residence for noted financier and equestrianism loving George Lewis Ohrstrom Sr.

The resulting 15,800 square foot home has room after room of classic Tudor touches, including 17th century English paneling, walk-in fireplaces, exposed beams, and leaded glass windows.

The impressively large main living area is a vast hall with a soaring 40-foot cathedral ceiling and an imposing fireplace.

Just off this room is the large kitchen and panelled dining room, which is far cosier but no less resplendent.

Mel was one of the world's hottest celebrities in his heyday, and with the home's 15 bedrooms, he had plenty of scope for lodging arrangements when he played the host.

However they also came in handy, as it mean none of his six sons and daughter with Robyn will have been forced to share a room.

History buff Mel was no doubt drawn to the property's rich past, and he will have been sad to see it go following the end of his marriage.

It was initially put on the market for a pricy $39.5m in 2007, but it lingered there for three years before it was finally being sold for a much-reduced $24m.

Potential buyers now have another chance to obtain the Braveheart star's sizable pile, which is so large scenes from the Oscar winning blockbuster could be recreated in their full glory.

Even Mel himself may be tempted to come in with a bid to buy back the property, which is sure to hold many special memories.

Real estate experts believe the current owners are being optimistic with $33m asking price, though it is still several million short of the actor's initial valuation.

And they also believe that it will not be long before a buyer comes forward to purchase such a distinguished home.

While the Mad Max star will surely be interested to find out his old estate is up for sale, he has more pressing matters at the moment.

According to TMZ, his stepmother insists it's all his fault she is getting divorced from his father, and now she wants Mel to pay her legal bills.

Teddy Joye Hicks Gibson filed legal papers in Los Angeles County Superior Court asking a judge to make Mel a party in her divorce proceedings with Mel's father Hutton Gibson, who filed for divorce back in June.
