Daily commuters of Mumbai’s local train services are likely to experience some disruptions as over 2,500 suburban services, commonly known as local trains, will be suspended until November 6 due to ongoing construction activities.
As reported by PTI, suburban railway services are expected to be disrupted due to a block taken for the construction of the 6th line between Khar and Goregaon stations.
“Due to non-interlocking work in connection with the construction of the 6th line between Khar and Goregaon stations, these 2,525 suburban services will remain cancelled, ” a release by Western Railways stated.
Which rail routes will remain affected till Nov 6
A total of 230 to 316 Up (towards Churchgate) and Down (towards Virar/Dahanu) suburban trains will face cancellations on a daily basis. Additionally, 93 local trains will be canceled on November 4, and 110 on November 5, as indicated in a statement from Western Railway (WR).
The cancellation of these 2,525 suburban services is a consequence of non-interlocking work that is linked to the construction of the 6th line between Khar and Goregaon stations, as stated in the release. Sumit Thakur, WR’s Chief Public Relations Officer, emphasized that the rail block was thoughtfully planned to minimize disruptions to rail traffic and inconvenience to passengers.
As per the release, Western Railway commenced the expedited construction of the sixth line project between Khar and Goregaon stations, covering an 8.8-kilometer stretch, starting from October 7, and the work is advancing swiftly.
Moreover, in early October, a significant 38-hour rail traffic block was implemented on both the Up and Down lines connecting Panvel and Kharghar suburban stations, leading to the suspension of local trains along this route for the specified period. The block was active from September 30 to October 3, causing the cancellation of over 170 services and the short-termination of 700 trains at Belapur.
