Organic wild beauties from the North Woods of Minnesota woot woot!

Horsetail has been used in traditional medicines for centuries. In the North Woods they have been used by our native people for spiritual cleansing ceremonies as well as being used for natural tobacco rods. The top rod is popped off and used to pack tobacco leaves and other plants into the larger rods at the base of the plant.

Other uses from both Eastern and Western cultures include:
-Treatment of weak and brittle bones (osteoporosis)
-Treatment of tuberculosis (TB)
-Treatment of kidney problems
-Relief of fluid retention (edema)
-Stopping of bleeding
-Healing of wounds
-Lowering of inflammation
-Treatment of infections and inflammation of the urinary tract, earaches, menstrual cramps, and joint pain
-Treatment of respiratory conditions like asthma, bronchitis, or sinusitis
-Strengthening and restoration of teeth, bones, connective tissues, hair, and nails.

If you intend to grind the rods into powder for use in teas or capsules keep in mind that this plant is very high in natural silica content. It will dull your food processors and grinders. I recommend hand grinders as you can feel when your blades need attending to.

In recent years I have also seen these used in fairy gardens (the really do look like a bamboo grotto).
