How does one dress for a Karl Lagerfeld-themed event? Well, Salma Hayek Pinault's interpretation of the “in honor of Karl” dress code to the 2023 Met Gala was truly a feat. The actor, wearing Gucci, paired a red patent corset with a matching tiered tulle skirt, and somehow it totally worked. Maybe it's the pearls—one of Lagerfeld's Chanel signatures—draped over her shoulders, or the bow at the waist, or the peek-a-boo lace a the center slit, but I see the vision!
Hayek finished her look with a matte, brick red lip and a subtle smokey eye, both courtesy of Charlotte Tillbury, and a waist-length ponytail embellished with rosettes. Where it could skew Jessica Rabbit (which is a great look, but, I would argue, not Karl), Hayek somehow makes it demure.
Just one day before the big event, Tilbury teased her collaboration with the Magic Mike's Last Dance star on her own Instagram account. “Darlings, how gorgeous is this SMOULDERING glam on my hypnotising friend, the beautiful and talented @salmahayek, with makeup magic by @sofiatilbury!?” she wrote in the caption. Hayek wore the Tilbury makeup look and Jackie O-inspired Gucci power suit to the celebration of the new Bungalow Gucci boutique in New York City.
