Tom Felton's new memoir seems to confirm his feelings for Emma Watson haven't always been platonic.

In the previously leaked foreword of Beyond the Wand: The Magic and Mayhem of Growing Up a Wizard, Watson described her Harry Potter costar as her “soulmate,” writing, “For more than 20 years now we’ve loved each other in a special way, and I’ve lost count of the times people have said to me, ‘You must have drunkenly made out, just once!’ ‘You must have kissed!’ ‘There must be something!’ But what we have is far deeper than that. It’s one of the purest loves I can think of. We’re soulmates, and we’ve always had each other’s backs. I know we always will.”

Despite their indescribable bond, Watson also admitted their friendship “didn't start well.” While she described her nine-year-old self as “moony and probably rather annoying,” Felton's memoir gave more insight into their initial meeting and the eventual “spark” between them.

According to Beyond the Wand, Felton was practically Draco Malfoy incarnate when they met during an audition. When Watson inquired about a boom mic in their room, he replied, “It means they are recording us, obviously.”

“My relationship with Emma did not start well. She'd have been forgiven for not wanting much to do with me. It got worse,” Felton wrote, per the Daily Mail. According to Felton, he was a part of a group of Slytherin actors who were probably a bit too method. Things came to a head when Watson put together “a little dance show” in her dressing room.

“We sniggered our way down to Emma's show and the sniggers grew louder as she danced,” Felton wrote. “We were just being shitty boys, largely out of awkwardness and because we thought taking the piss was cool. I did feel like a bit of a dick, and rightly so. In the end, it was up to one of the hair and makeup ladies to tell me what was what.”

Ultimately, Tom Felton developed a deep affection for his costar. “I've always had a secret love for Emma, though not perhaps in the way that people might want to hear,” he wrote. “That isn't to say that there's never been a spark between us. There most definitely has, only at different times.”

While Watson's former crush on Felton has been well documented, her older costar has been denying relationship rumors since he was 15 years old…not that everyone believed him.

“Rumors started to abound that there was more to our relationship than we were letting on. I denied that I liked her in that way, but the truth was different,” Felton wrote. “My girlfriend at the time knew straightaway that there was something unspoken between us. I remember using the familiar old line ‘I love her like a sister.’ But there was more to it than that.”

He continued, “I don't think I was ever in love with Emma, but I loved and admired her as a person in a way that I could never explain to anybody else…. We were kindred spirits. I know for certain I'll always have Emma's back and she'll always have mine too.”
