Lalit Modi is best known for being the man behind the Indian Premier League (IPL). It was he who pitched the idea of a T20 league to the BCCI in 2007 after India won the inaugural edition of the T20 World Cup. Lalit Modi became the first chairman of the IPL which is now one of the biggest tournaments in the world, but in 2010, he was suspended by the Indian Cricket Board on several charges, including financial irregularities. Three years later in 2013, Modi was banned for life by BCCI after being found guilty of the charges. Shortly after that, he moved to London with his family comprising his wife Minal Modi, who died of cancer in 2018, and children Aliya and Ruchir.

Modi, who was born to a wealthy business family in Delhi, has a net worth of a whopping $570 million (Rs 4,555 crore), per Aaj Tak. He is currently the president and managing director of Modi Enterprises, which was established by his grandfather, Gujar Mal Modi in 1933. The Modi Group has businesses in several sectors like fashion, chemicals, healthcare, retail, salon, travel, personal care, entertainment and FMCG. The long list of brands owned by the company includes KK Modi educational institute, Modicare, Beacon Travels, Colorbar, Pan Vilas Pan Masala, Ego Italian restaurant and Godfrey Phillips.

The current valuation of Modi Enterprises, per Aaj Tak, is over $1.5 billion (approx 12,000 crore). It is thus hardly surprising that Lalit Modi lives a super luxurious life in London, and his residence is in one of the poshest localities.
