Born in Delhi in 1963, Modi was the founder and the first chairman of the Indian Premier League (IPL) from 2008-10. Inspired by the sports business in the USA, the businessman tried to implement the same in India in the field of cricket. In 1995, he went on to pitch the idea of a 50-over domestic league to BCCI, which didn’t receive much attention. However, in 2007 after India won the first T20 World Cup in South Africa, he laid the foundation of IPL, the ​​franchise-based domestic league. The 58-year-old had studied engineering and business administration in the USA. Modi was one of those who had a strong influence on Indian politics and shared close equations with both the Bharatiya Janta Party and the Indian National Congress. He was once a close associate of the BJP leader and Chief Minister Vasundhara Raje and had considerable political clout in Rajasthan, per TOI.
