Pacific Bonito, Bonita ( Sarda chilensis lineolatus )

Bonito are common but smaller members of the Tuna family. They are commonly mistaken for Skipjack which are almost identical except for the stripes. Other similar fish are White and Black Tuna or Little Tunny. While none of these fish are known as exceptional eating they do have commercial value. Anglers rarely target Bonito since they are typically found in big numbers and rarely exceed 15 pounds but they can be fun to catch on light tackle. Unfortunately for many anglers they are caught while fishing for trophy Marlin and quickly end up as bait.
