Visit Sadhana for delicious free vegan food

I have been volunteering here for 2 weeks. Sadhana Forest is first and foremost a reforestation project where many volunteers live. When we eat breakfast lunch and dinner, visitors are always welcome to join for a free vegan meal. There is no expectation for payment, it is given in the spirit of the gift economy and compassion which are core values here at Sadhana. Come along for breakfast at 8.45, lunch at 12.30 or dinner at 6pm and enjoy.

Pros: Organic and local, Beautiful main hut where everyone eats, Great sense of international community

Great vegan community

Sadhana Forest is a very environmentally councious place providing deforestation in the area, "engineering compassion" through their vegan values, and help raising counciousness (the idea of the Auroville in general). They offer free vegan food to visiters during their breakfasts, lunches and dinners. I recommend to visit and volunteer at this place.

Recoment about sadhana forest

As a vegetarian for many years I wanted to try a vegan diet in a place I won't have to worry all the time about the food I get.
In sadhana forest there's several chefs who cook different meals from organic ingredients and the food is always good!

It is so tasty food. I love that the food is vegan. I have been vegan since 1 year and feel so much better with vegan food. I can just recommend it. The food in Sadhana Forest is organic and vegan. You can eat in an beautiful silent place and enjoy the organic food. Their is food almost everyday breakfast, lunch, dinner. Their is enough food for everyone and nothing get wasted. If they have to much they give it to the dogs or the compost. This food gets composted and goes back to the roots if a tree.

Sadhana forest

It is my first time in Sadhana Forest near Pondicherry.
I was informed about the place and the community life by a friend.
My daughter first visited this place 2 years ago.
She was a changed person when she came back .
She began to live a simple life , appreciated all the privileges in life And was greatfull and thankfull.
I was inquisitive to visit this place.
I managed to take time off and with lot of Apprehensions visited this place.
I felt odd the first day, surrounded by friendly strangers, I ate a simple vegan dinner and went to bed in a hut with no electricity and used a toilet with no taps or flush.
It was not so difficult the following days to enjoy sevas such planting trees, lunch preparation, firewood cutting , goshala cleaning, zero waste management .....
The community is not just friendly but was inspiring to see people of all ages participating in work without any expectations. It is true Karma Yoga.
Life after seva is simple, reminding us how privileged and blessed we are, in this planet of abundance.
Everyday activities such as bathing, laundry and cooking are kept very basic to remind us that we need to respect the resources of this planet and preserve it .
It feels great to live in close connection with nature with cows, dogs, cats, peacocks, squirrels, frogs birds, bees and butterflies.
The core values of sadhana Forest are compassion for animals, unschooling and respecting this planet and its resources.
They believe in gift based economy.
There is fun too - with non-talent shows, informative movie nights, informal bon fires , a relaxing mud pool, yoga and a meditation hall.
You can meet local people from close by villages on potluck evenings on Saturdays.
I recommend this place for anyone who needs to meditate, introspect and rediscover oneself.
Also if you miss your grandfathers farm life and want to remind yourself of what this planet used to be not so long ago, do come here.
There is still time to save the planet and save all life !

Pros: Friendly community, Vegan, Simple dood

A forest community, open to all to share meals

The food at Sadhana Forest is delicious, healthy, vegan and plentiful. To enjoy a meal here without committing to a volunteer period you can drop in to the Friday tour at 4.30pm, which is followed by a film and meal. You can also visit at any other time you like and enjoy a tour and if it is mealtime you will be invited to eat with the community. Sadhana Forest operates on gift economy so you won't be asked to pay anything for your meal. It will be an incredibly positive and memorable experience.

Pros: Core values , Gift economy , Welcoming to all

Free vegan meals!

With the exception of Thursday dinner and lunch on the weekends, Sadhana Forest offers three delicious vegan meals a day, open to all and completely free. If you are interested in visiting Sadhana Forest, but don’t have the time to stay as a volunteer, you are most welcome to stop by during mealtimes to enjoy fresh food and good conversations. Most people come on Fridays, when there’s a full tour and a movie showing, or on Saturday evenings, when there’s a potluck dinner at the tea hut down the road. Breakfast is usually porridge (like ragi, millet, or poha) with fresh fruits like pomegranate, papaya, chiku, or guava. Lunch and dinner usually involve some combination or rice, soup, and salad, cooked fresh by volunteers each day. With volunteers from all over the world, and many creative chefs, every meal is something different and exciting. Meals are served in the main hut, where everyone sits together in a circle on the floor, and shares a moment of silence together before eating. It’s a lovely way to pause in your day, connect with new people, and eat food grown and cooked with love and intention.

There is no place like this. Having lovely vegan food with people sitting down in a hut is an experience you shouldn’t miss.
You get unlimited food and you get to see how 100s of dishes could washed with just 3 buckets of water!
What a way to save water and support veganism😄

Vegan Utopia!

This place is a utopia for vegans traveling on a budget!

Sadhana Forest does their best to operate under a gift economy, and part of that is offering free vegan meals to their visitors. This includes breakfast 7 days a week, lunch on all weekdays, and dinner every day except Thursday.

Be aware: the food served is not consistent. It’s cooked by a rotating set of volunteer vegan chefs that cook in bulk for dozens of people. Some days are better than others, but it’s always rich & fulfilling--with seconds and third helpings usually available. And, of course, it’s always vegan! Animal products (and processed foods) are not allowed in Sadhana Forest.

On Friday they also do a public “eco” movie screening night (usually some insightful documentary about veganism or more generally environmentalism) and give a tour of the forest.

If you fall in love, you can live in Sadhana forest. For this, you’d need to volunteer ~30 hours per week in various community projects, most of which goes to planting & nurturing the trees.

Pros: 100% Vegan, 0% Processed Foods, Free!

Cons: No Menu, Inconsistent Quality, Limited serving/meal times

Amazing free food

So this is something I've never seen before. Three times a day there's a bunch of people gathering in a circle in a bamboo hut. Everyone's served vegan food and after a moment of silence we'd start eating together. It's a beautiful atmosphere, really. You can come by any time, join a free meal and a tour around the forest.
Food is always different, loads of fruits and veg, all the healthy stuff.
Stop by and enjoy the magic.

Pros: Delicious free food, amazing atmosphere
