Sanjay Leela Bhansali's magnum opus made an enthralling entrance into our lives on this day, exactly 17 years ago. Devdas, a title that has been made umpteen times in Indian cinema holds a lot of significance even after 2 decades later for more reasons than one. The opulence, glamour, extravagance, and beauty was never seen before on the celluloid with all colours possible. In fact, Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla won the National Award for Best Costumes.

The director pulled a perfect casting coup by roping in Bollywood Badshah- Shahrukh Khan, dhak dhak girl- Madhuri Dixit, and beauty queen Aishwarya Rai Bachchan. Aishwarya Rai even made her Cannes debut and since then she has been the most revered face of one of the world's biggest beauty brands.

Even after completion of 17 years, this epic drama is still fresh in our minds. Right from Paro's makeup to Chandramukhi's jewellery, the movie had it all packaged to perfection. A look at all that made this one a classic piece till date.

Pink Saree

Aishwarya wore a pretty pink coloured saree with embellished detailing and crystal work. She teamed this stunning outfit with a pearl choker necklace, rani haar, and chunky kadas. Letting her hair tied in a sleek low bun, she opted for a red bindi, shimmery eyeshadow with an on-fleek highlighter and pink lip shade. With a pair of danglers, Aishwarya’s look is ideal for wedding functions.

For Paro's look, 600 Bengali sarees were mixed and matched to create unique new designs.

Blue Silk Saree

Aishwarya was looking a royal bride in a blue silk Bengali saree. She wore a blue silk saree with intricate gold contrasting embroidery. With a choker necklace, rani haar and jhumkas, Aishwarya was looking every inch of a diva in this look. She teamed this look with a sleek bun, kohl eyes, and a red bold bindi.

After marriage, Paro's every saree was kept 8-9 meters long as opposed to the normal 6 meters.

White And Red Saree

Remember when beautiful and mesmerizing beauties wore red-white saree in ‘Dola Re’ song? This white-red saree with contrasting gold work is chic and sheer fashion goals. The intricate work on the blouses made the pieces stand out on their own. Adding some glamour to this look, Aishwarya opted for a matching pair of a choker necklace with a maang tikka, and earrings and a pretty haath phool. The traditional Bengali saree or lal paardnever looked this glamorous on screen before! Not just the sarees or jewellery, this particular song showed Alta in all its fashionable glory donning perhaps two of the most beautiful hands at the time.

It used to take approximately three hours to precisely drape a saree in the same way, for every shot, to avoid any jerks.

Red Lehenga

Madhuri Dixit donned a 30 kg lehenga for the song, 'Kaahe Chhed Mohe'. The actress opted for a maroon lehenga with intricate embroidery with gold running stitch with a gorgeous maroon dupatta. She also wore a beautiful gold rani haar, chunky earrings, and some bangles to complete her look. With an embroidered choli, she finished her look off with maroon lipstick and a front draped dupatta.

The lehenga worn by Madhuri Dixit was designed by Abu Jani Sandeep Khosla. He designed this attire using gold and jadau.

Sea Green Anarkali Suit

For the song, ' Maar Daala', Madhuri Dixit wore a sea green heavily embellished Anarkali. She paired it with a heavy dupatta, beautiful necklace and pretty haath phools. The actress rounded off her look with kohl eyes, pink lipstick and oodles of highlighter.

Madhuri Dixit donned exquisite Banarasi sarees, brocades and silks for her role. Her kurtas and embroidered blouses were inspired by 90s Bengali outfits.
