Rukmini was a beautiful woman whom Lord Krishna saw in his dreams, fell in love with her, and married her. Many devotees say that she represented Krishna’s human love, while Radha was his divine love.

Many people also believe that Rukmini was also an incarnation of Goddess Lakshmi, but she had to be present with him in a less conspicuous capacity.

Another mythological story of Rukmini and Krishna’s union says that her brother wanted her to marry a King. However, Rukmini was in love with Krishna and sent him a letter to abduct her.

With the help of Arjuna, one of the Pandavas, Lord Krishna and Rukmini ran away together and married each other.

People believe that Radha and Rukmini are not different from each other. According to a statement in Skanda Purana,

“Rukmini Dvaravatyam Tu Radha Vrndavane Vane”

Its loose translation says that the role of Rukmini in Dwarka was the same as the role of Radha in Vrindavan.

It is only because of Radha’s devotion to Krishna and their unconditional love that they are worshipped together. Many devotees say that their souls are one.

Is There Any Temple Of Krishna And Rukmini?

You will find most temples across India with idols of Radha and Lord Krishna. However, there is one temple located a few kilometres away from Dwarka, known as Rukmini Mata Temple.

It is believed to have been built more than 2,000 years ago. Its main sanctum has Rukmini’s idol. The exterior and interior walls have intricate carvings of elephants and human figures.
