History
The history of the Government Rose Garden dates back to its establishment in the year 1995. The garden was established to commemorate the centenary Flower Show in the Government Botanical Gardens. The Garden today is handled by the Tamil Nadu Horticulture Department.
Initially, the garden was established with just 1,919 varieties of roses along with 17,256 rose plants were planted. However, as of today, there are more than 20,000 varieties of roses of 2,800 cultivars. The garden stands to be one of the largest collections of roses in India.
Architecture
The garden is spread over 10 acres of land and consists of 5 curved terraces. These terraces have plenty of walking space for tourists. The architecture of the garden boasts of the rose tunnels, pergolas, and bowers with rose creepers. The garden’s slopes also feature the Nila Madaam, an observation platform. Tourists can observe the entire rose garden from the Nila Maadam. The garden also features a beautiful statue of an angel amidst the roses.

The Rose Garden is the major tourist spot in Ooty. The Government Rose Garden ticket price for entrance for the adults is INR 30 and for children INR 15. Tourists can do the following activities at the Rose garden :-

- It is recommended to carry a light shawl in case you feel chilly during the winter season.
