CID Actress Shakila Dies At 82 Following A Massive Cardiac Arrest

Shakila was known as 'the fairy queen of Indian fantasies'

Bollywood actress Shakila (82), breathed her last on September 20 as she suffered from massive cardiac arrest. The late actress was a diva in early 50s with the unique kind of films she chose. She got appreciation for role in films like Hatim Tai (1956), Guru Dutt’s Aar Paar (1954) and CID (1956), China Town (1962). She was rushed to the nearby hospital following the cardiac arrest. However, as reported in Mumbai Mirror, her colleagues from 50s cinema said that it was sad that she did not get immediate admission in the hospital and thus had to be admitted in Arogya Nidhi hospital in Juhu.

Known as ‘Fairy Queen of Indian Fantasies’, Shakila married an NRI film distributor and moved to United Kingdom and returned to Mumbai after they seperated. She moved from her house Gobind Mahal to Bandra after her daughter Meenaz committed suicide. Shakila’s sister Noor too tried her luck in Bollywood but later on ended up marrying popukar actor- comedian Johnny Walker.

Just as she was popular amongst her fans, she was also loved in the film circle. Her friendship with Waheeda Rehman, Nanda, Jabeen Jalili was amongst the most talked friendships then. Years after leaving leaving Bollywood films too, she was in touch with actresses Asha Parekh and Saira Banu. Her songs ‘Baar Baar Dekho’, ‘Ae Mere Dil Hai Nadaan’, ‘Neend Na Mujhko Aaye’ are the gems of Bollywood and will be remembered for years to come. Her journey from being a Badshah Begum to star actress Shakila will surely leave her fans inspired always. RIP Shakila.
