Yamaha achieves 10 million production milestone in India since start of operations in 1985
India Yamaha Motor's 10 millionth unit, the FZS-FI Version 3.0, was rolled out from the company's Chennai plant.

India Yamaha Motor has achieved a major milestone with its total production reaching 10 million units since the two-wheeler manufacturer began operations in the country in 1985. The 10 millionth unit turned out to be Yamaha FZS-FI Version 3.0 and it was rolled out from the company's Chennai plant.

The three India Yamaha Motor plants located at Surajpur (Uttar Pradesh), Faridabad (Haryana) and Chennai (Tamil Nadu), have jointly contributed to the overall production achievement of the company till date. Also, half of the entire 10 million units have been produced in the last seven years between 2012 and 2019, which is another milestone for the company. During this seven-year period, the scooter models contributed to 44 per cent of the overall production with 'Fascino' being the major contributor.

On March 15, 2019, the company had launched MT 15 at a starting price of Rs 1.36 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). The naked bike rivals the likes of KTM 125 Duke, TVS Apache RTR 200 and Bajaj Pulsar NS200.

According to the company, 80 per cent of the 10 million units were manufactured at Surajpur and Faridabad facilities and 20 per cent were produced at the Chennai facility. Of the 10 million units, 77.88 lakh units were motorcycles, while 22.12 lakh units were scooters.

India Yamaha Motor achieved its first major milestone with its Surajpur factory touching 1 million unit production milestone in 1999. This factory located in the Uttar Pradesh state was witness to another milestone when 5 millionth unit was produced here in 2012. Later in 2016, the company reached the production milestone of 1 million units in the country.
