Incidentally, it also holds the Guinness World Record for the highest selling two-seater sports car. Exterior design of the new MX-5 follows Mazda's KODO design language that has been used in other models of late as well. This design language follows a simple yet successful formula- front engine with rear wheel drive and two seats provided within a beautiful long nose. At the rear, the Miata has a stubby tail body with a soft top foldable roof.

At the front, this new generation of the Miata comes with slim and pointed headlights, combined with a large air intake grille to form the familiar face-like structure of earlier versions. At the rear, a set of round LED tail lamps and a dual exhaust tip can be seen.

Mazda had originally unveiled the first generation Miata at the 1989 Chicago Auto Show, when no other manufacturer made an affordable, lightweight convertible sportscar. Although this vehicle was never sold in India, many of them were independently imported. Some buyers in India still adore the legendary first generation Mazda Miata.
