Telangana Election Result 2023 HIGHLIGHTS: Congress wins in Telangana, dethrones KCR with 64 seats, BRS bags 39

As per the Election Commission of India, the following are the seats that the parties bagged in Telangana:   

Congress - 64 seats

BRS - 39 seats

BJP - 8 seats

AIMIM - 7 seats

CPI - 1

AIMIM chief Asaduddin Owaisi said, "The people of Telangana have taken a decision and we should respect it. In the last 10 years, there has been development in Telangana under the leadership of KCR, but we respect the decision of the people...I am thankful to the public for giving us victory in 7 seats. We will work on the loopholes and introspect this."

Telangana Congress chief Revanth Reddy was scheduled to meet Governor Tamilisai Soundararajan at 9 pm on Sunday. He will hand over a letter to the governor staking claim to form government in the state. Revanth Reddy will be accompanied by Congress MP Uttam Kumar Reddy, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar and senior party leader Manikrao Thakare. 

Ahead of his meeting with the Governor, Revanth Reddy also met with party MLAs at a hotel in Hyderabad. 

The Congress is set to form the government in Telangana after it crossed the majority mark of 60 seats in the 119-member state Assembly. The party won 64 seats while the ruling BRS won 37 seats. The BRS is also set to win two more seats. 

Telangana BJP president G Kishan Reddy said, "The BJP did well in Telangana, we got a good percentage of vote...we got 8 seats this time."

"In Kamareddy, BJP candidate Venkata Ramana Reddy did very well. He defeated KCR and Revanth Reddy," G Kishan Reddy added. 

Prime Minister Narendra Modi addressed the people of Telangana following the BJP's defeat in the state and wrote on X (formerly Twitter), "Our bond with Telangana is unbreakable and we will keep working for the people." He said the people's support for the BJP has been increasing over the last few years and it will continue in the future.

ECI suspended Telangana Director General of Police Anjani Kumar for violating the Model Code of Conduct as he met Congress leader Revanth Reddy who is contesting in the ongoing state assembly election, according to sources. 

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Congress has won 59 seats and is leading in 5 seats. 

After a swift victory of the Congress in Telangana, Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar said, "Telangana results indicate continued dominance of Congress in the south." 

The resignation of K Chandrashekar Rao has been accepted by the Telangana Governor and further requested him to continue in office until the formation of the new government. 

As per sources, Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrashekhar Rao has tendered resignation to his designation through his office. 

BJP leader Venkata Ramana Reddy said he viewed Telangana Chief Minister K Chandrshekhar Rao and state Congress chief Revanth Reddy as "normal candidates". The BJP leader won the Kamareddy seat with a total of 66652 votes. KCR was trailing behind Ramana Reddy with 6,741 votes. 

In Kamareddy constituency, Telangana Congress Chief Revanth Reddy is trailing by 10902 votes, as per ECI. 

According to the Election Commission of India (ECI), the Congress is leading with 32 seats.

BJP's Katipally Venkata Ramana Reddy, 53, is leading in the prestigious Kamareddy seat in Telangana, moving ahead of Chief Minister and BRS chief K Chandrasekhar Rao and state Congress chief A Revanth Reddy. 

Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge thanked the people of Telangana for the mandate in Congress's favour and acknowledged the party's poor performance in Chhattisgarh, Rajasthan and Madhya Pradesh.

"I thank the people of Telangana for the mandate we have received from them. I also thank all those who voted for us in Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. Our performance in these three states have no doubt been disappointing, but with determination, we reaffirm our strong resolve to rebuild and revive ourselves in these three states," he said in a tweet.

"The Congress party fought a spirited campaign in all these four states. I acknowledge and appreciate the efforts of lakhs of our workers. We will overcome temporary setbacks and prepare ourselves fully for the forthcoming Lok Sabha elections along with the INDIA parties," Kharge added.

Telangana's Congress chief Revanth Reddy said that due to the grand success of Bharat Jodo Yatra, Rahul Gandhi could restore faith in the people of Telangana. Hence, victory was possible in the state. 

Reddy quoted Rahul Gandhi in the press conference and said that the Congress scion once said, "We are like family and that we are there for you at the times of your need." 

"People of Telangana have given an answer to KCR and KTR," said Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister DK Shivakumar told the media after the Congress on Sunday won the Telangana elections. 

Congress on Sunday won the Telangana election but lost in three other states - Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan. On this regard, Telangana Congress leader Renuka Chowdhury said, "I am unable to understand. It's a shock for us. Someone will have to take responsibility for this (loss in three states). We will have to introspect."
