Former Karnataka Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa's son BY Vijayendra has been appointed the new chief of Bharatiya Janata Party's Karnataka unit. He replaced Nalin Kumar Kateel.

According to the appointment letter, BJP National President JP Nadda appointed Vijayendra, who was the Karnataka BJP Vice-President, as the new state in-charge with immediate effect.

The development comes in the run-up to the 2024 Lok Sabha elections.

Vijayendra thanked Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah and BJP national general secretary BL Santhosh for his new role as the party's state chief. "They have blessed this worker to bring everyone together, win their trust and strengthen the party," he added.

"We will work towards the party’s success in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections by winning the maximum number of seats from Karnataka and strengthening PM Modi’s brand and reputation," said BY Vijayendra.

Vijayendra was the front-runner for the state chief post along with CT Ravi, Sunil Kumar, and Basanagouda Patil Yatnal, among others.

Vijayendra represents Shivamogga's Shikaripura constituency in the state assembly.
