The birth anniversary of Lord Ganesha is popularly known as Ganesh Chaturthi. On every auspicious occasion, Lord Ganesha is first worshipped in the presence of other deities. The ritual is considered as lucky because Ganesha is considered as Vighnaharta, the symbol of removing obstacles from the lives of his devotees. He is the God of wisdom and good fortune. On this day, he is offered prayer and the festival is celebrated with lots of enthusiasm across India.
As per the Hindu calendar, it falls on the Shukla Paksha of Bhadrapada month. And according to the English calendar, it occurs in August or September as Ganesha Chaturthi. The festival ends with a 10-day continuous celebration on Anant Chaturdashi known as Ganesh Visarjan day. On this day, the idol of Lord Ganesh is immersed in water bodies like a river, lake or sea, followed by a beautiful procession around the country.

The puja time is preferred around Madhyahna, which is considered auspicious timing.
It is the birth time of Lord Ganesha i.e called Madhyahna Kala. Madhyakana literally means midday as per the Hindu timings.
The time duration of Hindu timekeeping is divided into five equal parts.The five parts are Pratahakala, Sanagava, Madhyahna, Aparahna and Sayankal.
As per the Vedic astrological beliefs, the most appropriate time for Ganapati Sthapana is performed during the Madhyahna part of the day.
The most detailed and ritualistic Ganesh Puja is named 'Shodashopachara Ganapati Puja.'

GANESH CHATURTHI 2022: MOON SIGHTING
As per Hindu religious beliefs, moon sightings are not allowed on Ganesh Chaturthi.
The moon sighting in Ganesh Chaturthi creates Mithya Dosham or Mithya Kalank. The literal meaning of it is a false accusation of stealing something.
It was signified through Puranic legends that Lord Krishna was accused of stealing a precious jewel named Syamantaka.
And through superstitious beliefs, Sage Narada informed the world about a situation where Lord Krishna sighted the moon on Bhadrapada Shukla Chaturthi.
This was the reason that Krishna was cursed by the Mithya Dosha.
Later, as per the information provided by Lord Krishna, God Chandra was also cursed by Shri Ganesha that whosoever sighted the moon on Shukla Chaturthi in the month of Bhadrapada would be cursed with Mithya Dosham and would be dishonoured by society.
With the advice of Narada muni, Lord Kirshna also observed Ganesh Chaturthi through fasting to get rid of the Mithya Dosha.
