Ayesha Takia, who almost disappeared from films after her marriage with Farhan Azmi, turns 32 today.

Takia made her Bollywood debut in Taarzan The Wonder Car in 2004. While that film did not do much to boost her image as an actress, it was Socha Na Tha that released the same year, that made her a new actress to watch out for.

Over the next few years, Ayesha worked in a handful of films including the critically acclaimed Dor in 2006, for which she won a Critics' Choice Award.

Ayesha tied the knot with Farhan Azmi in 2009, and after that, she has hardly been seen on the big screen.

Salman Khan-starrer Wanted (2009) was Ayesha's last big Bollywood film that released right after her marriage.

When Ayesha decided to get married to Farhan Azmi at the young age of 23, many people called her 'insane'.

Here is what you might not have known about the Dor actress.

1. Ayesha Takia has been married to restauranteur Farhan Azmi, son of Samajwadi Party leader Abu Azmi, since 2009. In an interview in 2011, Takia said, "When I got married, a lot of people told me I was insane."

2. Ayesha was in a relationship with Farhan for four years before they tied the knot.

3. The couple welcomed a baby boy in 2013.

4. Takia said that it was sort of a 'conscious decision' to quit acting. "I guess people can say that. One would think that I was not able to cash in on the success of Wanted but I never had any strategy or hidden formula for success. I have some of the best films to my name. I enjoy acting... I make the choices. I have never had a PR or a manager and have never been very media-savvy. I like to live my life in a particular way and do things that make me happy," said the 32-year-old.

5. Ayesha Takia was offered Nagesh Kukunoor's Aashayein, but she turned it down because there was a kissing scene in the film.

6. "On the personal front, I think the turning point has to be my marriage as it was a step ahead in my life. It has really been a beautiful journey so far," Ayesha said in 2011, describing the 'mod' (turning point) in her personal life.

7. Ayesha refers to Socha Na Tha as her Bollywood debut film, and not Taarzan The Wonder Car that hit the screens earlier. The reason? "No, I don't have anything against Tarzan as it was my debut film, but I signed Socha Na Tha before it and it took three years to make the film. My first experience on a film set, my first shot was with Socha Na Tha. I talk about it because it paved the way for how I would perceive a role and taught me the tricks of the trade. It was not only my first film but was a debut for Abhay Deol and director Imtiaz Ali too," said Ayesha.

8. Ayesha first met Farhan Azmi when she was just 19. They 'started out as friends' and then got into a relationship.

9. Ayesha never thought that she would be married at the age of 23. The actress said, "I never thought I would be married at 23, but that's the fun thing about life -- you don't know what is waiting for you at the next corner. I have been lucky to be with Farhan. Before I got into films I would paint, read books and do a lot of things, but due to my acting commitments, they took a backseat. But now I am back to all of it and I love it."

10. About her husband Farhan, Takia said, "He is humble, modest and very hard-working. He enjoys his business and has a flair for it. He knows how to be a great friend and more than that, a great husband."

A few months ago, there were rumours that Ayesha had gone under the knife, but the actress shot down all plastic surgery stories.
