Diagnostic Medical Sonography

Diagnostic Medical Sonographers also called ultrasound technologists, are specially trained to utilize sonography equipment to create sonograms - or ultrasound scans - of structures inside the human body. At Lawson, our program focuses on the human heart--Cardiac Sonography one of the most lucrative careers you can enter. With shortages in the field, Cardiac Sonographers can look for entry level jobs beginning over the $60,000K range or higher.

Benefits of Choosing a Career in the Diagnostic Medical Sonography Field

Choosing a career path as a Diagnostic Medical Sonographer is one of the smartest decisions you can make.  There is currently a shortage of Cardiac Sonographers (which Lawson's program is designed to focused on), so hospitals and other health care agencies will pay top dollar for trained sonographers who are trained in this specialty.  In fact, the median salary for seasoned sonographers is 75K with entry level jobs in the 60K+ range.  Sonographers can also pick up additional certificates and skill sets and perform ultrasounds of the abdomen (for pregnant patients), muscular skeletal, breast, and more.

Our Associates in Applied Science (AAS) two-year degrees range from 60 to 64 credits and will equip you to enter the job market skilled and employable.  To  increase your earning power, students should always continue their education to continue to grow and learn in their fields of study.

Cardiac Sonography
Diagnostic Medical Sonography is one of Lawson's fastest growing programs. We focus on cardiac sonography because it is high demand and pays extremely well. We partner with UAB Hospital to ensure our students get the highest quality training available.
