In theoretical Computer Science and Mathematics, the Theory of Computation (TOC) is the branch that deals with what problems can be solved on a model of computation, using an algorithm, how efficiently they can be solved or to what degree (e.g., approximate solutions versus precise ones). The field is divided into three major branches: Automata Theory and Formal Languages, Computability Theory, and Computational Complexity Theory, which are linked by the question: "What are the fundamental capabilities and limitations of computers?". As a Faculty of TOC (on visiting basis) for MCA Program at International School of Management Excellence (ISME), Bangalore, I am happy to inform you that I got an opportunity to Teach the course by understanding the Machine and its challenges while giving instructions to computer (it's other way, when we are not clear how to communicate with a Machine and our challenges in understanding the computer). It was my pleasure to invite Dr. Jayakumar to address our students on Quantum Computing and its Applications in Industry. Dr. Jayakumar (B.Tech.; M.Tech.; Ph.D.) is a passionate and experienced Quantum Computing lecturer and researcher, with over 15 years of academic and industry involvement. Dr. Jayakumar is an IBM Quantum Educator who teaches and mentors students' community and industry professionals on Quantum Computing and its various applications. Following up on my post a few months back about the completion of my MTech in Data Science at IIT Hyderabad, I am now very happy and excited to share that my Master's Thesis has been accepted as a paper publication titled: "Constrained Quadratic Model Formulations for MDCVRPTW: Quantum Vs Classical" in the COMSNETS 2024 16th International Conference on Communication Systems & Networks and under the research topic: "Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS)". My accepted paper is listed #13 on the COMSNETS website: https://lnkd.in/grC-WbJZ The objective of this paper is to compare of the performance of Quantum algorithm and Classical CPLEX algorithm for a specific class of Vehicle Routing Problems known as Multi Depot Capacitated Vehicle Routing Problem with Time Windows (MDCVRPTW) and this work concluded that the quantum algorithm outperforms the classical CPLEX algorithm in terms quality of solutions for comparable running times. Just a year and a half back with zero knowledge of Quantum Computing, I wanted to venture into Quantum Computing, and I approached my professor and guide at IIT Hyderabad: Dr MV Panduranga Rao to accept me as his M Tech thesis student with the intention of working on a project related to Quantum Computing. I thank Dr MV Panduranga Rao for his trust and faith on me, and for the countless hours he spent guiding and supporting me. I will end this post with a quote from Ralph Waldo Emerson and this quote resonates with my MTech journey at IIT Hyderabad: “Finish each day and be done with it. You have done what you could. The Department of Computer Science and Engineering, IIT Palakkad organized a lecture series titled 'Flow-Augmentation: recent advances in parameterized (weighted) cut problems' by Dr. Roohani Sharma on 7 August , 2023. The lectures included a survey on the parameterized complexity landscape of cut problems and introduced the audience to various tools used in this realm. The lectures kick started with a comprehensive overview of classical tools such as important separators and shadow removal. Subsequently, the sessions explored the recent and most potent tool in this field – flow augmentation. Furthermore, the lectures delved into illustrating the intriguing link between cut problems and the realm of Boolean MinCSPs. The series concluded with a tutorial on the applications of flow augmentation to cut problems in the bi-objective optimization (weighted) setting.
