I had the pleasure to talk with Julien about my role here at Provence Rugby working as the Lead S&C coach, in addition to my PhD where I am using Prevent Biometrics Instrumented Mouthguards examining Head Acceleration Events (HAEs) in Rugby Union. I highly recommend checking out his other talks with coaches, S&Cs, and Physios from around the globe who share their unique experiences! - - - - - - - - - - In addition, since we spoke back in August a couple of big papers came out on Instrumented Mouthguards in Rugby Union. "Head Acceleration Events in Male Community Rugby Players: An Observational Cohort Study across Four Playing Grades, from Under-13 to Senior Men" (Bussey et al) "Instrumented Mouthguards in Elite-Level Men’s and Women’s Rugby Union: The Incidence and Propensity of Head Acceleration Events in Matches" (Tooby et al) News also came out that World Rugby will be financing the Instrumented Mouthguard program at the international level, and the French Professional divisions (Top 14 & Pro D2) will also be kitted out. For those using the Mouthguards, I highly recommend reading this paper below... "Consensus Head Acceleration Measurement Practices (CHAMP): Origins, Methods, Transparency and Disclosure" (Abrogast et al) The paper introduces recommended best practices when collecting, analysing, and reporting Head Acceleration Event data. It is important that we try and follow the same protocols so we can compare the data we collect. If you have any questions I am more than happy to answer them!
