This 900 years old temple was built in one night❗ Chandramouleshwara - Shiva temple in Hubli, Karnataka. 🌙 🕉 The temple was built by the Badami Chalukyas during the 11th and 12th centuries. 🕉 The temple was commissioned by King Someshwara and was completed in just one night! 🕉 It’s said that the workers were so fast in their construction that they didn’t even have time to finish the work entirely. So what remains today is only half complete. 🕉 Unlike other temples, this temple doesn't have a gopura. 🕉 The temple is notable for how it integrates the artwork of Shaivism, Vaishnavism, Shaktism and Vedic deities together. 🕉 Chandramouleshwar Temple has four doors in as many directions, altogether accounting for twelve doors in the temple besides two Shivalingams. 🔱 One of the two lingams is the ‘Chaturmukha Lingam’, a four-faced Shiva lingam, which is the speciality of the temple. 🔱 A four-faced linga is said to represent the five aspects of Shiva - Sadyojata, Vamadeva, Aghora, Tatpurusha and Ishana. 🕉 The fifth aspect is center, the shaft itself or is assumed to be emerging from the top of the shaft and denotes the formless Absolute. 🕉🔱🌙 #india #templesofindia #whatinspiresme #shiva #ancientindia #ancientarchitecture #ancienthistory

Gwalior, a historic city in the Indian state of Madhya Pradesh, is renowned for its architectural splendor and ancient monuments. Perched 100 meters above the cityscape, the Gwalior Fort is the primary attraction, a commanding structure that has borne witness to the region's dynamic history. Within the fort's sprawling complex lies a collection of remarkable Jain monuments, notably the Siddhachal Caves and the Gopachal rock-cut Jain monuments, which together form a unique constellation of religious heritage. These monuments are renowned for their extensive array of statues dedicated to Jain Tirthankaras, revered spiritual teachers who, according to Jainism, guide humanity on the path of righteousness and truth. The statues, which number in the hundreds, are intricately carved into the rock face of the hill on which the fort stands. These carvings offer a stunning blend of art and devotion, showcasing the rich craftsmanship of the period. They range from small, almost unnoticeable figures to towering monoliths that stretch over 15 meters in height, representing different Tirthankaras in various postures of meditation and contemplation. However, these rock-cut monuments bear the scars of history. During the rule of Islamic invaders, many of the statues were defaced or destroyed, leaving a poignant reminder of the cultural and religious conflicts of the past. Today, the Gopachal Parvat and Siddhachal Caves serve not only as significant pilgrimage sites for followers of Jainism but also as attractions for history enthusiasts and lovers of architecture. As one walks through the serene environment, one can't help but marvel at the grandeur of these ancient sculptures, their resilience through time, and the stories they continue to tell.

Ayodhya is all set to celebrate the groundbreaking ceremony of the Ram Temple, with hotel bookings skyrocketing to five times their usual prices ahead of the inauguration. As per its design structure, Ayodhya Ram Mandir is going to be the largest temple in India. No steel or iron is used in the making of the Ram Mandir. The mandir is completely made up of stones and instead of iron, elements like copper, White Cement, and wood will be used. To build the temple, bricks especially inscribed as “Shri Ram” is used for construction. Some of these bricks are old and have not been used for more than 30 years, and hence are also called “Ram Shilas”. According to the sources, the authorities will be placing a time capsule 2000 feet below the ground right below the temple. The main purpose of placing a time capsule is to protect the identity of the temple so that it doesn’t forget in the future. Ayodhya has a rich history, with many considering it the birthplace of Lord Rama, a significant figure in Hinduism. The journey to build this temple has been going on for 500 years, filled with ups, downs, and even legal battles. Finally, in 2019, the Supreme Court gave the green light. As we look forward to the groundbreaking ceremony, the Ram Temple is not just a building. It's a symbol of faith, tradition, and a blend of old and new. The mix of materials and careful planning show how much care is going into preserving the history and spirituality of the Ayodhya Ram Mandir. It's not just a construction project; it's a journey that connects the past to the present and beyond. #rammandir #ayodhya #linkedinforcreators #linkedinnewsindia

#archdaily India's ancient cities grew around rivers. Guided by geography and climate, limited local resources, and individual histories, riverscapes emerged as a unique design expression for each settlement. A built form typical, if not unique, to India, are the Ghats. They have emerged as a response to religious, spiritual, and social needs along the water edges, becoming places of human congregation. Originating from the Sanskrit word “ghatta” meaning “a landing place”, Ghats are a set of steps built parallel to the river flow and leading to the water. They are constructed to provide river access, retain soil, stabilize and define the river banks, guide water flow, and protect settlements from flooding. Built within the river landscape, the Ghats strengthen the enduring connection between nature, culture, people, and water. #culture #india #people #water

11th-century Hindu temple,🕉🛕Rajarani Temple located in Bhubaneswar, the capital city of Odisha (The state of Great Kalinga empire) Bharat 🇮🇳 Based on the sculptural architectural style, the temple is dated to the mid-11th century. Brown groups the temple along with Anant Vasudev Temple and places it around the 11th–12th centuries. Another survey of Orissa temples carried out by S. K. Saraswati in 1953 yielded a similar date. Panigrahi, who did a comprehensive analysis of Orissan temples, gives an unspecified date between Lingaraj Temple and Mukteswara Temple.[clarification needed Fergusson believes construction of the temple was begun by around 1105. George Michell believes the temple was built during the same time as Lingaraja Temple. Rajarani Temple roughly belongs to the same period as the Jagannath Temple at Puri. The architecture of other temples in central India originated from this temple. The notable ones in the category are the Khajuraho temples and Totesvara Mahadeo temple in Kadawa. Scholars believe based on the style that the temple might have been built by Somavamsi kings who migrated from Central india to Orissa during the period. Rajarani temple is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India (ASI) as a ticketed monument. #Odisha #culture #odhisaculture #SanatanDharma #Hinduism #historymatters #cultureofindia #templesofbharat #history #hinduhistory
