Prime Minister Narendra Modi called upon the world to come together to transform the global trust deficit among nations into trust and confidence. When is 3 Ds a good result? ...Mr Modi’s ‘Three Ds Mantra’ – subtly but importantly different over a decade   Last week I spoke on a panel discussion on India’s economy at the Nehru Centre in London. It was hosted by Fair Observer - thank you! - and the link is below.   https://lnkd.in/e6KiVbJf   We discussed many of the ‘pros’ and ‘cons’ for India’s growing economy and among them were three themes that were also specifically mentioned by India’s election bound Prime Minister in his annual Independence Day address on August 15th this year. He calls them his ‘three Ds – Democracy, Demography and Diversity.’   I was therefore quite struck to see that in an election speech almost a decade ago, in March 2014, Mr Modi – not Prime Minister yet – also said that he had a ‘3D mantra’ for India. Then it was, ‘demographic dividend, democracy and demand for goods and services to make the country prosperous over the next decade.’   Note the subtle but important shift – to replace 'demand' with 'diversity'. Diversity is indeed one of India’s greatest strengths but not one that this Government has always been known for. Perhaps, in seeking a third five year term, the need to recognise the value of India’s diversity will lead to a more inclusive campaign rhetoric. This could resonate better with a broader base of India’s voters as well as play more positively with an external audience, including international investors who wish to invest more in India’s growing economy but worry about a perceived slide towards authoritarianism.
