Biography

Alexander Graham Bell was a Scottish-born American inventor, scientist, and engineer who is credited with inventing the telephone. He was also a pioneer in the development of hydrofoils, aeronautics, and communication technologies.

Bell was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, to a family of deaf educators. His mother and wife were both deaf, and this inspired him to study the science of sound. He conducted experiments on the transmission of sound waves, and in 1876, he patented the telephone. The first words spoken over the telephone were "Mr. Watson, come here, I want to see you."

Bell went on to found the Bell Telephone Company, which eventually became AT&T. He also invented a number of other devices, including the phonograph, the metal detector, and the photophone.
