Be the change you wish to see in the World

Be the change you wish to see in the World

Life is for changing oneself only.

By changing oneself we can bring in the change.

Trying to change others is futile. If anyone could change the other, the world would have changed for the better long back. Many so called good leaders came and went but it seems world has not changed for the better.

What happens inside (in the minds of the majority of the people) is reflected in the outside world. And our social system developed for years is responsible for this.

Action and reaction are equal and opposite. This is law of nature. Without action there is no reaction.

Why there is so much stress, depression and lack in the society even though nature creates in abundance for every one?

It only indicates so much anxiety, suffering and pain inside the people that comes out in different form.

World has technologically advanced very much but still why in the US maximum heart attacks happen on Monday i.e. first working day of the week.

Society needs healing and love.

Peace and tranquility inside will bring peace outside.

We have forgotten live and let live philosophy.

Hence bringing role models to power will be important to bring in the change.

Time has come for each member of the society to do his part to bring in necessary change than waiting for change to happen.

In democracy we say power lies with people.

We need to bring change in ourselves to use our right to express our voice responsibly and do our part with a lot of awareness.

Mother Teresa said everyone cannot do big things but everyone can do small things with utmost care and responsibility. If everyone makes his/her door steps clean, the world would be a clean place.

Then the motto of Mahatma Gandhi - “ Be the change you wish to see in this world“ doesn’t remain just a motto but becomes an inspiration for everyone to participate in the change we all want to see.

On this occasion of Mahatma Gandhi's Jayanti, i would like to mention his main teachings as understood by me

1) Set an example - Leadership is all about setting an example in front of people to follow. Gandhiji's leadership was based on living the principles. Walk the talk was his way to set an example.

2) Cleanliness of surroundings has an overall effect on your health, well being and also on your mind. Foundation of good living is keeping environment clean. He preached cleanliness throughout his life and followed it himself.

3) My life is my message - He delivered his messages through his acts and not only through words. That required discipline and commitment. That influenced whole world.

4) If India has to progress economically, we must invest in skill building and not only on schooling. Because ultimately skills will help to make a living and not only education taught in schools.

5) Non injury - Actions are merely manifestation of our thoughts . Hence non injury at thought level is very important to create harmony in the society.

6) Follow your path - Gandhiji followed his path without bothering about what people will say. This is very important quality. We can focus on ourselves and listening to our own inner voice than totally relying on what other people are saying.

7) Truth can not be expressed in words but can be lived - This is seen from lives of all great people . Gandhiji's life was also a representation of this.

8) Don't tell others what you yourself will not do or have not done - Gandhiji refrained himself from sweet/sugar for two weeks before telling a child not to eat too much sweet/sugar.

9) Be the change - You can do whatever possible even if small from your side to participate in creating a better society than waiting for some one to do it or change to happen.

10) Leader's main quality is inclusiveness - Any leader whether in politics or business or social field must be inclusive . He must think about all members. This is the main quality of a leader to create prosperity and harmony in the society.

11) Future is created through what we do in the present

Gandhiji followed his truth through out his life and his life was an open book. That made him one of the greatest leaders in the world. More than what he said, who he was inspired and influenced Indian people to follow him unconditionally on the path towards achieving independence from British rule and making India independent in 1947.

One strong lesson from his life what we can take at the moment is internal change leads to change in the external environment. By focusing on ourselves and following the principle of truthfulness, we can influence the surroundings and bring required change.
