Bahujan Samaj Party chief Mayawati has to reimburse the public money spent on installing hundreds of elephant statues in parks in Uttar Pradesh's Lucknow and Noida, the Supreme Court said today.The elephant is the symbol of the Bahujan Samaj Party or BSP.

With the BSP deciding to contest urban local body polls on party symbol after a gap of over two decades, party supremo Mayawati is camping in Lucknow to personally monitor preparations and finalise candidates.

Unlike the last Uttar Pradesh Assembly elections, statues of elephants, the BSP's poll symbol doting various parks and memorials in Lucknow and in Noida, will not be under wraps this time.

Delhi High Court on Friday remanded back to the Election Commission a plea seeking cancellation of Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) symbol 'Elephant', for alleged misuse of public funds by the erstwhile Mayawati government in installing statues of the pachyderm across the state.
