In our series on the impact of the pandemic on the most vulnerable children, here is a story from a tiny Kolkata slum, next to the rail tracks at Majerhat, called Madhubasti. The residents of the slum make a living by selling honey but their lives are anything but sweet. For years, social workers have struggled to admit the children from the slum into schools. But in the coronavirus-induced lockdown, the schools shut and switched to the online medium. But the digital divide and, above all, the hunt for a two-square meal everyday, since the pandemic began, has undone all the success stories.
