Vidya Balan feels relieved for not having to grow through the grind of swiping right and left. She also recalls baking a 'lumpy' cake for Siddharth Roy Kapur.

Vidya Balan met Siddharth Roy Kapur at a party at Karan Johar’s house back in 2010. In her words, the filmmaker played Cupid as he intentionally invited the two of them as he wanted them to end up together. After dating for a bit, the lovebirds tied the knot in December 2012 in a private ceremony and nearly 12 years later, they’re still going strong. Now in an exclusive chat with News18 Showsha, Vidya says she considers herself fortunate to have found her soulmate without having ‘to go through the grind of swiping right and left’.

She tells us, “A lot of people even from our generation swipe right and left. But I just got lucky that I found a partner before Tinder and Bumble boomed and I’m very happy about that. Love will always remain love even. It’s what makes the world go round and round. It’s just that people have gotten so spoilt for choice in every area of their lives that they’re wanting to keep their options open even in terms of relationships.”

She attributes these dating apps to creating a generation of ‘confused’ youngsters and reveals how her love life would have shaped if she had to depend on them. “I would have sucked at it (laughs)! I would have really gotten confused and that’s why you can’t blame this generation that is confused and is breadcrumbing. When you’ve so many options, it will be confusing. It’s like when I go to a buffet, I just don’t understand ki kya khaaye,” says the actor, who will next be seen in Do Aur Do Pyaar.

However, Vidya’s quick to add that despite all that confusion, modern relationships have a lot more honesty. And that’s precisely why she is unafraid to express her emotions to Siddharth openly. Giving a glimpse of herself as a wife, she says, “I’m a jealous partner and I show it too. If I’m jealous, I can’t keep it within myself and behave cool with Siddharth. I’m easy-going with everyone else apart from my husband. But I’m also the more romantic one.”

So, what’s the most romantic thing she has done for Siddharth? “I don’t cook at all. But on our first anniversary, I had actually baked a cake for him. I was shooting elsewhere and I went into the kitchen of that hotel and the chef helped me a lot. Once Siddharth had it, he told me, ‘It’s so good!’ It was so sweet of him. And then when I tasted it, I realised it wasn’t good at all! It was so lumpy. I didn’t tell him that the chef helped me make it but now I guess he’ll know,” chuckles Vidya.

What she thinks makes her even luckier is the fact that her husband belongs to the same line of work as her. “The positive side is that he understands what it takes to do what I do. So, he’s very supportive and accepting. And that’s also the flip side because I can’t lie to him about being exhausted due to work,” says the Bhool Bhulaiyaa actor.
