Sania Mirza, winner of multiple Grand Slam titles, was got married to Shoaib Malik in 2010 and they have a son together.

India tennis legend Sania Mirza has shared a couple of images on her Instagram account days after the news of her divorce from Pakistan cricketer Shoaib Malik was made public.

Mirza married Malik in 2010 and have a son together.

Her family from Hyderabad revealed that the 37-year-old took divorce a few months ago with another report quoting her father Imran as saying that Mirza took ‘Khula’, an Islamic jurisprudence allowing a woman to start initiate divorce proceedings unilaterally.

“Sania has always kept her personal life away from the public eye. However, today the need has arisen for her to share that Shoaib and she have been divorced for a few months now,” the message read.

“She wishes Shoaib well for his new journey ahead. At this sensitive period of her life, we would like to request all fans and well-wishers to refrain from indulging in any speculation and to respect her need for privacy,” it added.

Malik had shared a couple of pictures from his marriage to a Pakistani actress on his social media accounts creating a stir online which gave credence to speculations that he has indeed taken divorce.

Earlier, Mirza shared a cryptic message on her social media handle that read, “Marriage is hard. Divorce is hard. Choose your hard! Obesity is hard. Being fit is hard. Choose your hard! Being in debt is hard. Being financially disciplined is hard. Choose your hard! Communication is hard. Not communicating is hard. Choose your hard! Life will never be easy. It will always be hard. But we can choose our hard. Pick Wisely!”

Mirza won six Grand Slam doubles titles during her career and is the highest ever ranked India female stars in women’s singles history, climbing as high as 27 in the WTA rankings.
