The iconic yet controversial love story of Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan will always be a classic. It is a perfect example of unrequited love. The 1970s was the era of the two love birds who sensationalized Bollywood romance.

However, as fate had it, Rekha and Amitabh parted ways. While one continues to be in love, the other has moved on in his life. Amitabh Bachchan was then married to Jaya Bachchan, who ensured he would break all the ties with his former ladylove.

When Rekha openly admitted being in love with Amitabh Bachchan

It was in 2004 when Rekha took the nation by storm after she candidly expressed her feelings for Amitabh Bachchan on Simi Garewal's Rendezvouz. She spoke at length about her family and even notoriously answered the host's question about her feelings for the legendary actor.

When Simi Garewal asked the legendary actress if she was ever in love with Big B, the actress said, "Absolutely! Duh, that's a dumb question."


She further added, "I have yet to come across a single man, woman, or child who can help but fall completely, passionately, insanely, desperately, and hopelessly in love with him. So why should I be singled out? What do I deny? I'm not in love with him. Of course I am. Duniya bhar ka love aap le lijiyega and add some moremdashI feel that for that person. Bottomline."

Having said that, at the same time, Rekha denied being in a relationship with her Silsila co-star. She said, 'There was never a personal connection with him that's the truth. Never ever. There was no truth to the controversies and speculation."

Rekha's equation with Jaya Bachchan

On the same show, Simi Garewal asked the Koi...Mil Gaya actress if she ever had issues with Jaya Bachchan due to the controversies and gossip stirred up.

Answering the same, Rekha shared that there was never any rift between the two actresses. In fact, she credited the Rocky Aur Rani Kii Prem Kahaani actress as being far more sensible and unbothered by the ongoing speculation.


'Didibhai is much more mature, much more together. I've yet to come across a woman who is so together. She's got so much dignity and class. She's got a lot of strength. I admire that woman. We had an association before the so-called rumors and the media messed up the whole image. We were living in the same building, and we had a relationship. She was my Didibhai, and she still is- no matter what happens, nobody can take that away. Thank God she realizes that too. Whenever we meet, she's very sweet - she's not just civil she's just herself,' said the veteran actress.

Rekha and Amitabh Bachchan worked together in Yash Chopra's Silsila, which was released in 1981. Since then, the duo has never shared the screen.
