Captive breeding / propagation

The offspring of Charonia tritonis are possible. Unfortunately, the number of offspring is not large enough to cover the demand of the trade. If you are interested in Charonia tritonis, please ask your dealer for offspring. If you already own Charonia tritonis, try breeding yourself. This will help to improve the availability of offspring in the trade and to conserve natural stocks.

Info

Charonia tritonis (Linnaeus, 1758)

Charonia tritonis, common name Triton's trumpet, is a species of very large sea snail, a marine gastropod mollusc in the family Ranellidae, the tritons. The shell of the giant triton, Charonia tritonis prey on echinoderms including the crown-of-thorns sea star Acanthaster planci.

All reports of Charonia tritonis in the Mediterranean are Charonia variegata!
