Mother-Daughter Photo Sessions

Celebrating Milestones of Moms and Babies with Beautiful Photos

Mothers and daughters.

What a portrait of unconditional love; what a beautiful memory to preserve.

As a mother of four, I’ve seen the unique bonds that form with my sons and my daughters alike, but after hosting a mother-daughter photography session this month, I wanted to share a few ways we can nurture your mother-daughter bond through photography!

Family Spotlight:

Meet Jennifer and her nine-month-old daughter Amelia.

Amelia is Jennifer’s youngest child, but her first daughter, which made our photo session together so special. We had a wonderful time capturing their mother-daughter relationship, a tight bond that is growing just as quickly as Amelia is! Their relationship is full of quiet, perfect little moments that became stunning photos – shared looks, snuggles and smiles.

There’s a closeness that will go with them throughout their lives together.

What They Wore:

My clients and I always have so much fun looking through the studio’s wardrobe collection when we’re planning their photo sessions. Whether someone knows exactly what they like, or they need help deciding, I am there to support them. It was so fun channeling our inner feminine for this session, with a floral headband and bonnet for Amelia, and dressing Jennifer in a flowy sage green dress.

(...And we couldn’t resist the matching mom-baby outfit shots either!)

There is something really beautiful about watching moms and daughters get dressed up together.
Cherish this magic on your mother-daughter photo session day, but also the next time you’re getting ready for Sunday Church or to go to a Christmas party. One day, you might just be buttoning up the back of your daughter’s white lace wedding gown.

Mother-Daughter Photo Session

Since Jennifer purchased the Reflections First Year Collective, this was her second photo session. After a newborn session with her husband and two boys last year, Amelia’s nine-month milestone was an excellent time to give mom and daughter some quiet moments to develop their unique bond.

After getting dressed up together, Amelia sat on her lap for some one-on-one attention from Mom (and she LOVED it, as they always do). They stared into each other’s eyes and smiled, and Amelia loved it when Mum laughed.

Then we gave Jennifer a chance to step back and observe things from my angle, watching Amelia stroll around the room, bounce up and down with excitement, and get all snuggled up in a fluffy white blanket.

And then, we ended the session with some photos that framed the closeness these two souls have with each other – snuggling, kissing, holding … you can tell Amelia adores the feeling of being held by her Mama.

And don’t we all?

Why Get Mother-Daughter Photos?

Photos with all your children are beautiful, and I’ll always try to capture a couple of one-on-one shots with you and your children in a family session too. But booking a photo session just for you and your daughter(s) is a really memorable experience:

  • You have a chance to be really intentional about your relationship with your daughter - not just in the way it looks, but how you want it to feel. Photos can be an excellent reminder of this vision you want to create on a daily basis.

  • You can spend time leaning into the sweet, nurturing feelings you don’t always have time to indulge in when you’re trying to keep everyone fed, safe and clothed all day long.

  • When I am there to mother you, it actually gives you time to connect with your daughter in a new way. Maybe for just a few moments, you can exhale, let go of the stresses of being the “boss” at home, and just delight in the people you and your baby girl are becoming together.

What Do You Want Your Daughter to Know?

Daughter,

There are so many things I want to tell you.

About you, about me, about us – and about the world we live in.

Like how much I love you.

Like how beautifully, wonderfully made you are.

And how your life has changed mine.

But whether you’re in my womb, or screaming in the back seat of my car, or trying to decide whether to go to college or take a year off to travel, here are some things I need you to know:

  • Pray – There is a still, small voice available to you and it is God whispering wisdom to you – everything you need to know in this moment. Be still, and listen. It may not tell you everything about tomorrow or ten years from now, but it will support you in this moment, right now. Get to know the sound of it, and trust it.

  • You Can Choose – Life will be so much more enjoyable when you realize you can choose how to react to every situation. Choose your own adventures. Choose to believe in miracles. Choose to have fun when life sends you for a plot twist, and choose to be patient when you’re on a detour.

  • Always Love – It really is the key. Practice on yourself first. Love your mind, love the things you create, love the way you look and the way you laugh. Say kind things to yourself and be really kind to yourself when you make mistakes. And then love others with that much compassion and grace, forgiving people who hurt you, and helping people who come to you, and encouraging people when they need it.

Trust yourself my love. I’m still learning to be a woman too. For both our sakes I promise to keep learning, and I promise to listen to the things you’ll teach me as well.

Love always,

Your Mum
