Durga puja is full of enjoyment , emotions, happiness, fun and memorable moments. Every puja brings a memorable memory in everybody’s life as we waited 365 days for these four days. I enjoyed a lot this year after two years of pandemic. For the first time, I went out with my friends alone and had tremendous fun. We went into places where a lot of catkin were blooming and looking like a white wave of clouds. We took lots of pictures there. We also did pandal-hopping, ate outside and had lots of fun. Not only with my friends, but also with my family I went out at night for the first time that was a new experience for me.

After two years of pandemic this year’s Durga Puja was on the whole very memorable for me. Moreover, I couldn’t enjoy last year’s puja due to a fracture in my leg. All our plans would have fallen flat if there had been a heavy downpour during the pujas, but the weather was mostly fine in Kolkata with bright sun, small white clouds and little rain sometimes. The declaration of Kolkata’s Durga Puja as an Intangible Cultural Heritage by Unesco last year made me feel proud. I have spent innumerable precious moments with my family and these memories are enough for me to last till the next Durga Puja. Aschhe bochhor abar hobe.

This year my friends and I visited Sreebhumi and Santosh Mitra Square. Dressing up in new clothes and going out with friends without guardians for the first time was my memorable thing this year.

This year’s Durga Puja was a much-awaited one as for the past two years none of us could celebrate properly and give our all to this festival because of the pandemic. Durga Puja always feels special but this year’s Durga Puja literally gave everyone the hope, happiness, energy, excitement and freedom to enjoy it. Starting with Mahalaya there’s a ‘Pujo-pujo flavour’ in the atmosphere and going for pandal-hopping and witnessing beautiful theme works across the city gives an enchanted feeling.

This year Durga Puja seemed very spirited and relaxing. After two years people were finally able to relive the old way of pandal-hopping. The joy of children going out with their parents to different pandals, the long queues outside restaurants, the lights for decoration and everything was a wholesome experience for us individuals. The visits to Salt Lake FD Block and Sovabazar Rajbari were musts and it was also very enjoyable. A big thanks to Unesco for giving Durga Puja its ICH tag.

Durga Puja is all about making memories. The easiest way people find now a days is by capturing them through the lens of their cameras. I have a good number of memories too. For me, the one that tops the list is trying my hand at the dhaak (for the first time this year). During Sandhi Pujo the dhaak was being played. The rhythm was so enchanting. Many matched steps to the beats. I was capturing the spectacular scene. While capturing, I noticed him playing so well that I got inspired to play it too. I just could not resist the temptation. It wasn’t planned.It happened on the spot. Even though this scene was captured by my sis I can still see when I close my eyes. A memorable incident indeed!

For me the most memorable thing about Durga Puja this year was the Sandhi Puja. This was my first time witnessing Sandhi Puja. It marks the moment when Goddess Durga emerged in her angry Chamunda form to kill the demons Chanda and Munda. One hundred and eight lamps were lit during the puja. The priest chanted the mantras. The drummers broke into a frenzied beat. Altogether it was ethereal.

My friend who suddenly lost her husband two years back and totally withdrew herself from outside world went to see Ma Durga. She walked a few kilometres and had dinner at a restaurant.
