Melocactus Bahiensis Cacti
The Melocactus Bahiensis is a very popular smallish globular cactus. The stem is light green to dark green having between 10-12 fairly prominent ribs and topped with a cephalium, which is usually a brightly coloured area of dense wool and bristles at the growing tip in which the flower buds and fruits are formed.

The pink flowers of the Melocactus Bahiensis are followed by fruits of a red to crimson colour on their tips but either white or pale pink at their base. White areoles contain 1-4 central spines which can be yellow, reddish brown or dark brown and 7-12 radial spines which are an off white colour and curved.

Very easy to grow these showy Cacti are perfect for Cacti enthusiasts.

    Common Name: Cactus Bahiensis.

    Origin: Eastern Brazil.

    Hardiness: Keep above 12 degrees.

    Growth Characteristics: Very showy globular Cactus. Fairly prominent 10-12 ribs Whitish areoles with 1-4 central and 7-12 radial spines. Small bell shaped pink flowers appear in summer around the crown in the Cephalium when mature follwed by small red to crimson fruits. Relatively fast growing. Likes to be fairly pot bound.

    Sun: Bright light.

    Exposure: Sheltered.

    Soil: Fast draining soil. Gritty. 

    Moisture: Water around every 14 days. Allow to dry between waterings. Keep dry in winter.
