West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee is likely to visit Delhi towards the end of March or early April to meet leaders of different opposition parties and formulate the strategy to be adopted against the Narendra Modi government over the alleged misuse of central probe agencies. The Trinamool Congress chief, however, is unlikely to meet any Congress leaders, reports said on Wednesday.

A top Trinamool leader told news agency ANI that the schedule of the party chief's visit to the national capital is yet to be finalised.

“But it is likely she will be in Delhi towards the end of March or early April," he said.

Sources told ANI that Banerjee will meet leaders including those who recently issued a jointly signed letter to the prime minister over the alleged misuse of central probe agencies against the opposition parties. Banerjee herself was one of the signatories of the letter.

Other leaders who signed the letter included BRS chief K. Chandrashekhar Rao, JKNC chief Farooq Abdullah, NCP chief Sharad Pawar, Uddhav Thackeray, Delhi Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal, Punjab Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann, RJD leader Tejashwi Yadav, and Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav.

The letter was issued in the wake of the arrest of former Delhi Deputy Chief Minister Manish Sisodia over the alleged irregularities in the formulation and implementation of Delhi excise policy. The AAP leader, who was arrested by the CBI on February 26, is currently lodged in Tihar jail. The Enforcement Directorate also has registered his arrest over the money laundering charges in the same case.

Another AAP leader Satyendar is also in jail while RJD supremo Lalu Prasad Yadav and BRS leader K. Kavita are facing inquiries by central agencies in separate cases.

On Wednesday, leaders of several opposition parties were stopped by the police at Vijay Chowk in Delhi as they took out a protest march from Parliament House to hand over a complaint to the Enforcement Directorate on the Adani issue. The TMC, however, was not part of this protest march.
