Honda CBR150R’s patent filed; India launch round the corner?

Folks, we come bearing some good news for you. Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India recently filed a patent for the, wait for it, CBR150R sportsbike. Yep, yep. This is interesting news, especially considering that the Japanese automaker discontinued the 150 cc sportbike in India a handful of years ago. Since then, there has been a void in the company's portfolio as far as the 150 cc sportbike segment is concerned. Anyway, the fact that the company has patented the current-gen model here is indicative of the fact that Honda 2Wheelers could launch this bike in India some time this year if not soon.

This upcoming bike in India, which will compete against the rather popular Yamaha R15, is currently retailed in international markets, such as Indonesia. The model offered there gets a design featuring razor-sharp fairing, sculpted fuel tank, well-integrated side fairing, and upswept tail pipe. As far as other features go, Honda CBR150R gets provisions such as all-LED lighting, reverse LCD instrument cluster, fairing-mounted rear view mirrors, etc.

Honda CBR15R is propelled by a 149.2 cc, single-cylinder, liquid-cooled engine that belts out a maximum power output of 17 bhp at 9,000 rpm and a peak torque of 14.4 Nm at 7,000 rpm. Suffice it to say that the upcoming CBR150R in India will go head to head with the Yamaha R15 V4 which comes powered by a 155 cc engine that generates 18 bhp and 14.2 Nm.
