NCP vs NCP: SC Denies Interim Relief To Sharad Pawar, Allows Ajit Pawar To Use 'Clock' Symbol

While allowing the Ajit Pawar faction to use the 'clock' symbol, the top court also asked the group to issue a public notice that its use of the symbol is subjudice before the court and that the declaration should accompany all templates, advertisements and audio-video visuals issued on behalf of the NCP-Ajit Pawar.

The Supreme Court on Tuesday refused to grant interim relief to NCP-Sharadchandra Pawar chief Sharad Pawar who had sought a stay on the Election Commission of India (ECI) order granting the clock symbol to NCP faction lead by Maharashtra Deputy CM Ajit Pawar.
"We direct that undertaking given shall be with respect to all states and not be confined to Maharashtra. Ajit Pawar is directed to issue a communication similar to 16.3.24, which shall ensure similar compliance to other states as well," the court said.
The top court also directed the ECI and the Maharashtra EC to recognise the 'Trumpet' as the official symbol of the Sharad Pawar faction of the NCP.
The top court allowed the Sharad Pawar group to use 'Nationalist Congress Party–Sharadchandra Pawar' name and 'man blowing turrah' symbol for the Lok Sabha and the state Assembly elections.
The SC directed that the ECI should reserve the said symbol for the Sharad Pawar group and it should not be allotted to any other party or candidate.
