18 Years Of Mumbai Floods: When Deepika Padukone Walked In Deep-Waist Water During 26th July Heavy Rains

If you are a resident of Mumbai, July 26 will always be remembered by you as one of the darkest days in the history of the city. For the unversed, the city was affected by torrential rains and floods on July 26, 2005. On that day, nearly 3000 people died due to heavy rains in Mumbai. Let us tell you, not only commoners, but several Bollywood celebs were also stuck in the heavy rains of Mumbai 18 years ago. Many people don’t know that Bollywood superstar Deepika Padukone was also stuck in the Mumbai floods of 2005.

During the 2005 Mumbai floods, Deepika Padukone couldn’t go back to her home as she was stuck due to heavy rains in the city. In an interview, the actress revealed that she was not an actor at that point of time. She was learning acting at an acting school in Juhu. For the unversed, Deepika made her big-screen debut in 2007 with the film, Om Shanti Om, opposite Shah Rukh Khan.

In an interview with Mashable India, Deepika Padukone recalled her struggle to reach home on July 26, 2005. The Piku star said, "I got stuck in the floods. In 2005, I was studying at an acting school in Juhu. When we came out of class, we found out that the whole Khar and Santacruz areas were completely submerged. Me and my friends walked in waist-deep water. I lived in Andheri and I couldn’t go back home because that whole area was flooded."

Deepika Padukone also said that she stayed at her friends' house as they were kind enough to allow her to live there. She revealed that she walked in deep water for 2 to 3 hours for just 1.5 kilometres. The actress said, "We were all holding on to the divider and walking. Obviously, it was scary because there could have been live wires or manholes."

Talking about Deepika Padukone, she will next be seen in the Hrithik Roshan and Anil Kapoor-starrer Fighter. The film is slated to be released on January 25, 2024 in theatres. Apart from that, she is also playing the lead role in Kalki 2898 AD opposite Prabhas. Moreover, Deepika will also make a cameo appearance in the Shah Rukh Khan-starrer Jawan.
