Exclusive! Rishi Kapoor ALWAYS Said 'No' To Raj Kapoor Biopics

We have had a biopic on Sanjay Dutt (Sanju) from Rajkumar Hirani, with Ranbir Kapoor playing the central role. We had a biopic on Silk Smitha (The Dirty Picture), from Ekta Kapoor who cast Vidya Balan as the South siren. And now, we hear that there is a biopic on the legendary actress Madhubala in the making, thanks to her sister Madhur Bhushan who has moved heaven and hell to set up its stage; that Padmini Kolhapure's hubby Tutu Sharma has dropped his plan of carrying the same idea and racing with Madhur Bhushan, is a different story which we brought to you FIRST and EXCLUSIVE.
Surprisingly, we haven't had a biopic on Dilip Kumar, Raj Kapoor, Dev Anand and Rajesh Khanna- popularity which is equivalent to idol worship and talent that was unarguably at heights.
Anyway, we have something interesting to tell you now. Several filmmakers approached the Kapoor brothers to obtain permission to make a biopic on their father, Raj Kapoor. But none succeeded. They all wanted to make a full-length feature film but returned home with long faces. Eventually, they all gave up their plans, realising that Rishi was not going to budge.
Aisa kyun hua? Aisa isliye hua ki Rishi Kapoor, in particular, was not keen that his father's life should go up on celluloid. Rishi's elder brother Randhir seconded him. And, the producers who almost had the script ready (as everything about every actor including Raj Kapoor is in public domain, especially after the Internet invaded our lives) just could not convince Rishi.
We learn that Rishi was very, very protective about his father. Obviously, every filmmaker wanted every detail about Raj Kapoor's life in their two-and-half hour versions. Actually, Raj Ji himself was not keen about the 7a biopic on him when he was alive.
So that's that! Now you know why Raj Kapoor's biopic has not been attempted by anyone so far. Simi Garewal made a documentary on Raj ji but that was granted permission since the family knew that she would make it sensitively.
Raj Kapoor, a brilliant actor and filmmaker who enthralled audiences in almost every film of his, suffered from asthma in his later years; he died of complications related to the disease in 1988 at the age of 63. He collapsed at the Dadasaheb Phalke Award event in New Delhi where he had gone to receive his award, and was rushed to the All India Institute Of Medical Sciences. A long hospitalisation of about a month followed, but he could not recover. Henna, which was barely half made until then, was later completed by Randhir and Rishi and released in 1991.
