The Autorickshaw drivers have been severely affected since the COVID-19 outbreak began. While the entire country went into lockdown mode, autorickshaw drivers found themselves without a means to earn a livelihood. Though the restrictions have been eased now, the passengers are still hesitant when it comes to using public transport. Despite being in a poor financial situation due to the current circumstances, an auto driver in Hyderabad returned INR 1.4 lakh to a passenger who had left her bag in the auto.

The incident took place on Tuesday when Mohammed Habeeb was on the road looking to earn his livelihood by taking passengers from one place to another.

After taking two women to their destination near Siddiamber Bazar area, the auto driver turned back towards the passenger seat, looking to find his water bottle. This is when he saw that a bag has been left behind.

The driver understandably feared as to what could be in the bag. After checking the bag, he found 1.4 lakh worth of cash in it. He didn't waste time in finding the passenger and went to a police station to report about the same.

“As there was no point searching for the passenger, it was best to approach the local police station. There were no two opinions about it,” Habeeb told indianexpress.com.

The passenger who had left the bag behind was identified as Ayesha. She too approached the police station later but Habeeb had handed over the lost bag there well before.

“The passengers forgot the bag, and the driver did not notice it. He went around searching for them and then came to us by around 4 pm. The woman who lost the bag also reached the police station by then,” said the SHO. “There was no complaint. Both identified each other and the bag full of cash was handed over.”

Habeeb was also given Rs. 5000 as a token of appreciation by the passenger Ayesha.
