Bangladeshi author Taslima Nasreen weighed in on the ongoing Prophet Mohammed row over remarks made by suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma during a TV debate. Taslima Nasreen noted that 'Prophet Mohammed would be shocked to see the madness of the Muslim fanatics around the world.'
"Even if prophet Muhammad was alive today, he would have been shocked to see the madness of the Muslim fanatics around the world," Taslima Nasreen wrote in a tweet.
Earlier, Taslima Nasreen noted that 'no one is above criticism, not even god.' "No one is above criticism, no human, no saint, no messiah, no prophet, no god. Critical scrutiny is necessary to make the world a better place," she tweeted.
The Bangladeshi author's statements come in the backdrop of the protests and violence that erupted in several states on the matter on Friday. A huge number of people gathered outside the Jama Masjid in Delhi and staged a protest against the suspended BJP leader Nupur Sharma's alleged remarks over Prophet Mohammed on Friday.
Protests erupted in Jharkhand's Ranchi, Bengal's Howrah and Uttar Pradesh's Prayagraj as well over the matter.
In Ranchi, Muslims closed their shops demanding the arrest of BJP leaders Nupur Sharma and Naveen Kumar Jindal on Friday morning.
Post the Friday prayers, thousands of people gathered on the Main road and raised slogans against the two BJP leaders. As the police personnel tried to stop them, the protesters pelted stones and vandalised several bikes and vehicles parked on the roadside.
Following the violence, a curfew was imposed in several areas of Ranchi and internet services were suspended. More than two dozen people are said to have been injured in the clash between the protestors and the police.
