Prime Minister Narendra Modi visited the Dwarkadhish Temple in Gujarat. One of the most famous temples in India it is also known as Jagat Mandir and is dedicated to Lord Krishna, also known as Dwarkadhish (King Of Dwarka). It is believed to have been established 2,500 years ago by Lord Krishna's great-grandson, Vajranabh. An important pilgrimage site for Hindus, Dwarkadhish Temple stands on a small hill. The walls are sculptured, and the main Krishna idol is kept inside the inner sanctum. It also comes under Char Dham — Badrinath, Jagannath Temple Puri, Dwarkadhish Temple, and Rameshwaram Temple. The Dwarkadhish temple has been rebuilt many times, and in 800 AD, the temple was renovated by Adi Shankaracharya. It was in 1472 that the temple was totally destroyed, and it was rebuilt again in the 16th Century, following the Chalukya style of architecture.

The Importance Of Dwarkadhish Temple For Hindus

The temple is associated with Lord Krishna and is one of the most important destinations for his followers. For Hindus, the ultimate aim is to attain moksha, and it is believed that a 'Darshan' of Dwarkadheesh can help people attain moksha or salvation. According to the official website of Gujarat Tourism, "It is believed that Lord Krishna arrived here from Braj in Uttar Pradesh to build the city. The temple was established by his grandson. It is at the cusp of the Gomti River and the Arabian Sea, providing a scenic backdrop to the spiritual site. It is said that Dwarka was submerged under the sea six times and what we see now is its seventh avatar. The temple itself has a fascinating legend. The original structure was destroyed by Mahmud Begada in 1472, and subsequently rebuilt in the 15th-16th century." The city is said to have been submerged into the ocean after Lord Krishna left the mortal world. It is believed that one can connect with the divine presence of Lord Krishna at the Dwarkadhish temple.

The idol of Lord Krishna or Shree Dwarkadhish is built in ‘Trivikram’ swarup. So what's a Trivikram Swarup idol? An idol that is Trivikram Swarup has Padma in lower right hand, Gada in upper right hand, Chakra in upper left hand and Shankh in lower left hand.
